Ok, here we go—the first post of the new blog!
I’m not really sure what to say, if I’m honest. It has been a while since I’ve written, well, anything really. I’m a bit rusty, which is weird since I’m made of stuff that doesn’t rust. It might explain some of the stiffness I’m experiencing in my advancing years though. Nothing a spot of WD40 won’t fix, eh?
As you might have noticed from the front page, this website has been somewhat forgotten about for a while. I’m trying to remedy that now. The Gallery of Things is the first step, showing off some of the images I had already uploaded here. That gallery will be refreshed every now and then with new images being rotated in as and when I add them to the site.
I have a lot of photos to work my way through before any meaningful updates start to happen, but I am aiming to post at least once a week on the blog.
Of course, all of this assumes we’re not all on fire in the near future. The political landscape around the world offers few reassurances this won’t happen right now but I will attempt to live in hope that I can at least get a hundred new photos uploaded before the nuclear missiles are launched, or the next plague takes hold *cough*bird flu*cough*. Oh, shit.
Here’s a photo I took during the covid pandemic whilst working with a local orchestra to create some online content in lieu of being able to do live performances.

So what happens next?
Well, I currently have around twenty films that I need to develop, scan and edit. I also have a fair few digital images to edit (scanning them seems like a lot of unnecessary work!). The digital side of things is easier to deal with, obviously. I cannot currently afford the developing chemicals for the rolls of film, and I also need to investigate other developers as I like to experiment. I mostly use Ilford’s Ilfosol 3, but for the amount of films I need to work on I need to find something less… expensive.
But I’m also trying to get back into a few other hobbies as well, lest the concentration on just one proves too much and I get fed up with it all. Those other hobbies are livestreaming on Twitch (mostly to my loyal audience of two people who I adore because they’re brilliant) and DJ-ing, which I am still learning but it gives me a chance to play all my favourite songs whilst also interacting with them in a more meaningful way than just bouncing around the room like a loon with no natural rhythm.

Time flies, eh?
I’ll not keep you any longer as we both know you have far more important things to be doing than sitting here and reading this nonsense. But please feel free to pop by every now and then to see if I’ve remembered to post any new stuff.
I promise I will do my best to try much harder and be much better.
Dickie
